No, a trotter is not a thoroughbred. Thoroughbreds are a specific breed of horse known for their speed and agility, often used in horse racing. Trotters, on the other hand, are a type of harness racing horse known for their ability to trot or pace at high speeds. While both types of horses are used in racing, they are distinct breeds with different characteristics and abilities. **

Before making a decision, consider the horse's health, temperament, and training. It's important to have a veterinarian perform a pre-purchase exam to ensure the horse is in good health. Additionally, evaluate the horse's behavior and training to determine if it is a good fit for your riding goals and experience level. Finally, consider the cost of care and maintenance to ensure you can provide for the horse's needs. **

The weight a trotter can carry depends on various factors such as the horse's build, fitness level, and the distance of the race. Typically, a trotter can carry around 110-120 pounds of weight, including the jockey and equipment. It is important to ensure that the weight is distributed evenly to avoid putting too much strain on the horse's back and legs. **

Yes, it is possible to lunge and stop a trotter. Lunging can be an effective way to train and exercise a horse, including trotters. By using voice commands, body language, and the lunge line, you can communicate with the horse and ask them to stop or change gaits. Consistent training and clear communication are key to successfully lunging and stopping a trotter. **

A saddle suitable for a trotter should provide good support and stability for the rider while allowing the horse to move freely and comfortably. It should have a relatively flat seat and a narrow twist to allow the rider to stay balanced and in sync with the horse's movement. Additionally, the saddle should have well-padded panels to distribute the rider's weight evenly and minimize pressure points on the horse's back. Overall, a close contact or racing saddle with a lightweight design and minimal bulk would be most suitable for a trotter. **

For a trotter, the most commonly used auxiliary reins are the overcheck and the side check. The overcheck is used to help keep the horse's head up and prevent it from lowering too much during the trot. The side check helps to keep the horse's head and neck in the correct position while trotting, providing support and guidance. These reins are important tools for trainers and drivers to help maintain the horse's balance and form during trotting exercises and races. **

To teach a trotter to canter, start by ensuring that the horse is physically fit and balanced. Begin by asking for a canter transition on a lunge line or in a round pen to help the horse understand the cue. Use clear and consistent aids, such as your seat, legs, and voice, to ask for the canter. Reward the horse for any effort to canter, even if it is just a few strides, and gradually build up to longer periods of cantering. Be patient and give the horse time to understand and develop the canter gait. **
