A foundation slab is a large, flat, and thick concrete structure that serves as the base for a building's foundation. It is typically poured directly onto the ground and provides a stable and level surface for the rest of the building to be constructed upon. Foundation slabs are essential for distributing the weight of the building and preventing settling or shifting of the structure over time. They also provide a barrier against moisture and help to insulate the building from the ground. **

To connect the new concrete floor slab to the old floor slab using the joint edge, a keyway joint can be created. This involves cutting a groove into the joint edge of the old floor slab where the new slab will be placed. The new slab will then have a corresponding key or tongue that fits into this groove, providing a secure connection between the two slabs. This method helps to prevent differential movement between the old and new slabs and ensures a smooth transition between the two surfaces. **

The new concrete floor slab can be anchored to the old floor slab using the joint edge by using a dowel bar system. This involves drilling holes into the old floor slab along the joint edge and inserting dowel bars into the holes. Then, when the new concrete floor slab is poured, the dowel bars will extend into the new slab, providing a strong connection between the two slabs. This method helps to ensure that the two slabs act as one cohesive unit, preventing any differential movement between them. **

The trenches for connections to the foundation slab typically come first before the foundation slab is poured. This is because the trenches are dug to accommodate the necessary plumbing, electrical, and other connections that need to be in place before the concrete slab is poured. Once the trenches are dug and the connections are in place, the foundation slab can then be poured on top of them. This ensures that the necessary infrastructure is in place before the foundation is constructed. **
