Birch mushrooms grow under birch trees because they have a symbiotic relationship with the tree. The mushrooms form a mycorrhizal association with the roots of the birch tree, which means they help the tree absorb nutrients from the soil while receiving sugars from the tree in return. This mutually beneficial relationship allows the birch mushrooms to thrive in the specific environment created by the birch tree. Additionally, the fallen leaves and decaying organic matter from the birch tree provide a rich substrate for the mushrooms to grow on. **
