In 1917, several significant events occurred. The United States entered World War I, joining the Allied powers in the fight against the Central powers. This year also saw the Russian Revolution, which led to the overthrow of the Tsarist autocracy and the establishment of the Soviet Union. Additionally, the Balfour Declaration was issued, expressing British support for the establishment of a "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine. These events had far-reaching consequences for global politics and the course of history. **

From 1917 to 1989, the world experienced significant political and social changes, including the Russian Revolution, the rise of communism, the two World Wars, the Cold War, and the eventual collapse of the Soviet Union. The Russian Revolution in 1917 led to the establishment of the Soviet Union, which became a major global power. The period also saw the rise of communism in various countries, the division of Europe into Eastern and Western blocs, and the intense rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Cold War dominated international relations during this time, and it eventually ended with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1989, marking the end of the Cold War era. **

The revolution of 1917/18 in Russia resulted in the overthrow of the Tsarist regime and the establishment of a socialist government under the leadership of the Bolsheviks. In that sense, the revolution can be seen as successful in achieving its immediate goal of removing the old regime from power. However, the long-term success of the revolution is more debatable. The subsequent civil war and the establishment of a one-party state under the Bolsheviks led to a period of political repression and economic hardship for many Russians. Additionally, the revolution ultimately failed to bring about the kind of socialist society that its leaders had envisioned, as the Soviet Union eventually collapsed in 1991. Therefore, while the revolution of 1917/18 achieved some of its initial objectives, its overall success is a matter of interpretation. **
