Saber-toothed tiger cats, also known as Smilodon, functioned as apex predators during the Pleistocene era. They were well-adapted for hunting large herbivores, using their long, curved canine teeth to deliver powerful bites to their prey. Their strong, muscular bodies and sharp claws also aided in capturing and subduing their food. Saber-toothed tiger cats likely lived and hunted in social groups, allowing them to take down larger prey and defend their territory more effectively. **

No, saber-toothed tigers did not have striped fur. They were believed to have had a more solid-colored coat, likely a tawny or reddish-brown color. The stripes commonly associated with tigers today are seen in modern-day tigers, not in saber-toothed tigers. **

Saber-toothed tigers, also known as Smilodons, went extinct around 10,000 years ago during the late Pleistocene era. There are several theories as to why they went extinct, including climate change, human hunting, and competition with other large predators. The changing climate may have led to a decline in their prey, making it difficult for them to survive. Additionally, the arrival of humans may have increased competition for resources and led to direct hunting of saber-toothed tigers. Ultimately, a combination of factors likely contributed to their extinction. **

A saber-toothed tiger would have used its large, sharp canine teeth to grasp and immobilize its prey. Once the prey was subdued, the saber-toothed tiger would have used its powerful jaw muscles to deliver a fatal bite to the neck or throat of its prey. After the prey was killed, the saber-toothed tiger would have used its strong jaws and sharp teeth to tear into the flesh and consume its meal. **
